According Michael Vinding, in 1984, Thakali population was 8,576. The 1991 Census shows Thakali population at 13,731, and 2001 Census at 12,973.
• Nobody believes in a decline of Thakali population between 1991 and 2001.
• Thakali population growth during 1984-2001 is consistent with Nepal's (both +50%) while growth during 1984-1991 (18% Nepal versus 60% Thakalis) and 1991-2001 (27% Nepal versus -6% Thakalis) are not.
We conclude that 2001 data is more accurate number.
